OUR HISTORY
Delta Gamma History
Delta Gamma was founded in 1873 in Oxford, Mississippi, at the Lewis School for Girls by three young women unable to return home for Christmas break. Their names were Anna Boyd, Mary Comfort, and Eva Webb. Together, they created an organization of "mutual helpfulness."
The young women chose the names Delta and Gamma because of their desires to "Do Good." This became Delta Gamma's motto and to this day is what sisters all over the country continue to do.
The bond of Delta Gamma sisterhood brings together young women of various backgrounds and personalities. Delta Gamma offers to women of all ages a rich heritage based on principles of personal integrity, responsibility and intellectual honesty. Its primary purpose is to foster high ideals of friendship, promote educational and cultural interests, create a true sense of social responsibility and develop the finest qualities of character.
